HWY 24 became my main route again from Napoleon to Ft Osage (by a
back road through Sibley) to La Benite Park via a turn north on MO
HWY 291. The park, like so many other stops, lies about half way between
two Lewis & Clark campsites - June 24 and 25. Like the others,
it provides essential information concerning the Expedition's passage
through the area, top and middle left. It's also close to the Missouri
River. Wildflowers grow on the banks - as Clark noticed. as I walked
along the river , a long, green snake slithered through the grass
in front of me, above. Coming up river through this area, Clark wrote
that they killed a rattlesnake lying on the riverbank. I'll settle
for an encounter with a nonpoisonous one. |
