The Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence - North Dakota
On April 8, 1805, the Corps of Discovery rowed up the Missouri, leaving the Mandan villages behind. The two original pirogues and collection of log hewn canoes headed toward a meeting with the Yellowstone. I chose to drive along the north shore of Lake Sakakawea - 180 miles of dammed Missouri River. Lewis and Clark sites here are submerged, so I moved along Hwy 1804 and US 2 to the confluence of the rivers.
