| Captain Lewis, with 4 other Corps members, managed to pass Point Ellice (Point Distress) on November 14. Clark and the rest made a run for it the next day. Clark: "About 3 oClock the wind luled, and the river became calm, I had the canoes loaded in great haste and Set Out, from this dismal nitich...." Fortunately, it's easier now to get around Point Ellice. Drive west on WA HWY 401 until it joins US HWY 101 at the Astoria-Megler Bridge. Turn right (north) and the park is just around the corner. |
