I
had planned to visit Edward and Pat Jones-Confluence State Park north
of St Louis before leaving. Unfortunately spring flooding had closed
the road - not the last flood-out on this journey for me. Although
the Corps camped twice before reaching St Charles, river changes have
left them under water. I didn't think there would be any photo opportunities
- so, on to St Charles where a statue of the captains and Lewis's dog,
Seaman , stands in Frontier Park. A sign in the park uses a Clark
journal entry to date the Corps's departure farther up the Missouri
River. |
